During the municipal council meeting on December 16, Elsa Lafaye (20,000 mayors) criticized the city’s education policy, during a deliberation on extracurricular fees. She felt that “education was not the city’s priority”.
The education assistant Patricia Rault reacts in a statement, estimating that “the remarks of Mrs. Lafaye concerning our actions in the field of education are deeply shocking. They are all the more so since she supported our educational policy two years ago as a member of the municipal majority. “
Stronger commitment and support
The assistant continues:
“Contrary to what she says, we have increased our commitment and support to schools over the past two years.
We have supported the teachers in the implementation of health protocols, in particular on the arrival and departure of children in schools as well as in the organization of travel within the Establishments; We have also developed our support for educational projects and environmental classes as we have greatly diversified the activities relating to extracurricular time (TAP) to promote student development and discovery in many areas: cultural, sports, artistic, environmental and social. “
And Patricia Rault to add:
“In the same spirit, we have increased the number of regional nursery school agents (ATSEM) to support the opening of new classes and facilitate the educational organizations of teachers. During this period of health crisis, leisure centers were organized in schools in order to avoid the mixing of pupils and to make life easier for families in this difficult period. This reorganization naturally led to an increase in the number of municipal staff to provide this service under good conditions. “
“Contradictions of Mme Lafaye”
The assistant explains about the municipal and extracurricular leisure reception services, that “the introduction of a rate of 5 € per quarter-hour in the event of delay after closing the service, is part of a logic collective and taking into account a service of general interest by a small number of parents. “
The education assistant adds: “The implementation of a meal reservation system (school days and during holidays) aims to avoid food waste and therefore additional waste in a logic of ecological transition. It is quite simple and one can be surprised by the contradictions of Mrs. Lafaye: on the one hand she advocates the fight against food waste and on the other hand she refuses measures aimed at reducing it; understand who can! “
Patricia Rault recalls that “on the investment side, each year the city carries out work in schools to improve the reception conditions for students.
“I would add that we recently launched two major studies in consultation with users: one relating to the Duguesclin school group including the construction of a new nursery school and the carrying out of renovation work in the elementary school; the second relating to the renovation of the Odile Gautry school. “
For the deputy: “These are all actions, means that prove that education is indeed a high priority for us. To say the contrary is to want to deceive the Fougeraises and the Fougerais. “
