Kaden and Dallas’ grandmother, 15 and 3 months old, had the instinct to put them in the tub as the tornado tore the roof of their house. They were eventually found safe and sound a few meters away.
Two babies, Kaden and Dallas, were saved by a bathtub. Aged 15 and 3 months respectively, the toddlers were put in a bathtub on the night of Friday December 10 to Saturday December 11, when deadly tornadoes devastated parts of the United States.
According to American media, picked up by BFMTV, the bathtub was blown away, like the rest of the house, and the babies were found alive a few meters away. It was the grandmother who had the idea to take refuge in the bathroom, while she was looking after her two grandchildren. As the tornado approached, she placed the toddlers in the tub, with blankets and a Bible. The roof of the house was then torn off, and the tub flew off with the two babies inside.
“I was looking around to see where the tub might be. I had no idea where these babies were. All I could say was Lord, please bring me my babies unharmed. Please, I beg you, “Clara Lutz, the grandmother, told local channel 14News. The lady was injured in the back of the head by a torn water tank.
“They brought him to me”
Despite her injury, Clara Lutz quickly sets out in search of the babies, then meets two deputies of the sheriff and two residents who have come to help. “I just heard the sound of crying or screaming from afar,” Deputy Troy Blue told 14News.

As the pictures show, four men eventually find the tub, with the babies inside, and manage to get them out of it. “The sheriff came. I got in the sheriff’s car at the end of my driveway, and soon after, they opened the door and brought me Kaden, my 15 month old baby. And they brought me my three month old baby, Dallas. They brought him to me “recalls the grandmother. These tornadoes, which ravaged parts of the central United States, in Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee, Arkansas and Missouri, killed 80 people.
The youngest of the babies will eventually have been slightly injured in the back of the head. But Kaden and Dallas are unharmed, and weren’t even wet from the rain, since the tub had overturned on them, thus protecting them.
