The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Prosecutor’s Office requests the sentence of 11 years in prison for the four migrants accused of generating a riot in the Las Raices internment camp. The events were recorded in full controversy over the poor living conditions in which they were Hundreds of young migrants arrived on the Canary coasts in a boat in an upturn in the migratory process that has not yet finished to this day. The altercation began in the line that had formed in the showers, when the four defendants provided with razor blades, a razor, stones and tried to skip the line for which an avalanche was registered. At one point, one of the defendants assaulted a guard and a fight broke out in which several security guards were injured, one of them with a bite on the leg. For all these reasons, the Public Prosecutor considers one of the accused as the author of a crime of public disorder with a dangerous instrument and another of threats, while the rest are considered the authors of a minor crime of injuries. The Public Prosecutor’s Office requests prison sentences for the four defendants totaling 11 years and the payment of compensation to the injured guards worth 1,500 euros. The trial will be held next week at the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and will be with a jury court.
