« To accommodate our flight attendants in Hawaii, between two shifts, the hotel we are dealing with is asking us today $ 1000 per room, per night! We have no choice: we pay … »
It is under cover of anonymity that an air carrier recently confided this situation to Open Jaw.
Taking advantage once again of a recent meeting in Montreal with representatives from Hawaii to Canada, we outlined the situation and requested an explanation. Here is the answer.
« Since the start of the pandemic, and especially since travel has resumed, Hawaii’s popularity has exploded with Americans in the United States. Because in their minds – and in the minds of Canadians too, Hawaii is a reliable destination ” explained Lorenzo Campos, Hawaii Canada Tourism Account Manager at VOX International.
“The traffic coming from the US market to the United States is greater today than before the pandemic, and greater today than it has ever been. Because also, as in many countries in the world, citizens are allowed to travel in their own country, and Hawaii is part of the United States. Lorenzo Campos added.

« Also, Hawaii is a very conservative state and in the face of the Covid, it is just as much. There are therefore still today sanitary restrictions which cause a reduction in the capacities offered and an increase in prices, even if this is not desirable. »
« Hoteliers are trying to accommodate all this demand and the new logistics. And all this pressure on the industry is having an impact on prices. I believe this is not only the case for Hawaii, but also for several countries in the world. But there will be a gradual return to normal, and prices will be adjusted downward. »
Mr. Campos concluded by stressing that all services are reopened and offered in Hawaii – shuttles between the islands, restaurants, attractions… – but sometimes at reduced capacity, and that for this reason, reservations in advance of all benefits are recommended to eliminate the inconvenience.
