Surabaya, CNN Indonesia —
Victim evacuation the eruption of Mount Semeru in Penanggal Village, Candipuro, Lumajang, East Java, was used as a shooting location for a film soap operas by a group of people. Volunteers were furious with his presence.
This was revealed by one of the volunteers at the refugee camp, Christian Joshua Pale. He said the filming of the soap opera just started today.
“They use refugee locations to shoot soap operas, from today,” Christian said, when confirmed CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (22/12).
Christian said the volunteers and residents were furious with the shooting activity. The reason is that the victims’ evacuation sites are used for commercial activities.
“Is it appropriate? This soap opera is commercial in nature, how come there is no empathy and conscience,” he said.
In fact, he said, the actors and actresses in the soap opera presented hugging scenes. According to him, this is unethical because it is seen by the refugees, some of whom are children.
“There is even a hugging scene in front of the children. Why is empathy not used, when people are grieving the loss of their family, the loss of their home,” he said.
The snippet of the soap opera went viral on social media. It was seen that residents criticized the shooting activities.
CNNIndonesia.com has contacted the Regent of Lumajang Thoriqul Haq. However, he has not yet responded.
