As we have heard in previous leaks coming OnePlus 10 Pro to debut earlier than we originally expected, as it will be released as early as January 2022.
It shows a comment on a post from OnePlus’ co-founder Pete Lau on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo. The comment is in Mandarin, but the translation reads: “10 Pro, see you in January”.
This confirms that OnePlus is ready to welcome the year 2022 with a solid mobile launch. An exact launch date is still unknown, but we expect to know more about it soon after we enter the new year.
Lau has not shared any other details, but we have some leaks and reports to start from at the moment. OnePlus 10 Pro is expected to get a 6.7-inch LPTO QHD + AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
We can also see an improved selfie camera of 32 MP. It can be available in a 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM option with 128 GB or 256 GB storage. Other rumors point to a 5,000 mAh battery, which probably supports 80W fast charging via cable and 50W fast wireless charging.
Certain leaked renderings claims that the device may have a screen hole for the camera in the same upper corner as the one on OnePlus 9 Pro.
It is particularly interesting that Lau has specified OnePlus 10 Pro in his post, and there is no mention of the standard model OnePlus 10. It may be that we only get to see one of these mobiles at launch, and that we may have to wait for the next mobile.
Analysis: Why so early?
OnePlus presented its OnePlus 9series in March 2021 and made it available in most regions in April 2021. We assumed that its successor would follow the same launch cycle.
The reason for an early launch is completely unknown right now, but we suspect that pressure from the rest of the competition is behind it.
OnePlus competitors Xiaomi and Realme are all ready to launch their first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered mobiles Xiaomi 12 and Realme GT 2 Pro shortly. While Xiaomi 12 now has a confirmed launch date of December 28 in China.
Samsung may offer major upgrades in its upcoming Galaxy S22 in January. Motorola has already launched a mobile with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, although it has only been released in China so far. All this puts pressure on OnePlus, which probably does not want to lag behind in the mobile race.
Recently, chipset manufacturers such as Qualcomm and MediaTek have begun updating their range with new launches to help mobile developers create new mobiles for all types of consumers. Seeing so many of its competitors launch new mobiles so closely creates pressure for OnePlus.
Reorganizing the roadmap simply means that OnePlus may have plans to catch up with more mobiles powered by different chipsets next year. This year, they chose to put their traditional T-upgrade on their OnePlus 9R mobile instead.
It thus skipped its regular OnePlus T series and only launched the OnePlus 9R in certain markets. OnePlus probably wants to get back in the minds of mobile consumers and the launch of OnePlus 10 Pro in January will enable them to do so.
