(CNN) — If you want to enjoy a meal, a drink or some indoor entertainment in some of the most popular urban destinations in the United States, it is best to carry proof of vaccination or, in some cases, at least a negative test result recent of covid-19.
Some big names in tourism, like New York City, already have terms in place for months. But with the omicron variant of the new coronavirus, which is highly infectious and spreading rapidly in the country, more US cities have imposed restrictions.
This is something to keep in mind, especially if you are traveling from a part of the US – or another country – that is less strict about the use of masks, tests and vaccines.
Through December 21, these are some of the top travel destinations in the United States that are already cracking down on people who are not vaccinated or not tested for covid-19 or have announced plans to do so soon:
Boston
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced on Monday, December 20, that her city would require proof of covid-19 vaccination for food consumption indoors, fitness venues, theaters and stadiums.
The mandate will be for clients and employees and will be applied in several phases.
For people 12 years of age and older, proof of a single dose of vaccine will be required starting January 15. Proof of complete vaccination will be required on February 15th. Find more information at Boston.gov, including acceptable ways to show proof of vaccination.

The nation’s third-largest city will require proof of vaccination for most businesses serving food or beverages beginning Jan.3, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Tuesday, Dec. 21.
The new requirement will take effect for anyone 6 years and older in restaurants, gyms, theaters, bars and other entertainment and sports venues that serve food and beverages, he said at a press conference.
All customers must be fully vaccinated to enter these establishments, he said, and there will be no option to present a negative test. Unvaccinated employees at these locations will have the option of getting tested for COVID-19, according to Lightfoot.
Supermarkets, schools, places of worship, office buildings, and residential buildings are exempt. Find more information at Chicago.gov.
The Angels
In Los Angeles, all customers seen inside a food or beverage establishment and other types of enclosed spaces must show proof of complete vaccination before entering. The application started on November 29.

Additionally, California now requires the use of a universal face mask in closed public settings until January 15, Dr. Mark Ghaly, secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency, announced last week. Find more information at the California Department of Health.
New Orleans

In the Gulf region, New Orleans, a foodie and party favorite, also has restrictions.
Anyone 12 years or older must present proof of at least one dose of the vaccine, or a negative result of a covid-19 test done up to 72 hours before, to enter restaurants, bars, music halls, sports stadiums in indoor, casinos and other entertainment venues. Find important details at ready.nola.gov.
New York City
The “Key to NYC” mandate has been in effect since September 13 and will tighten further in December.
Restaurants, movie theaters and other venues are open, but their interior spaces are available only to customers 12 and older who have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Beginning Tuesday, December 14, children ages 5 to 12 must show proof of at least one dose of the vaccine.
And as of December 27, the website says that “people 12 years of age and older who participate in public indoor activities will be required to show proof that they have received two doses of the vaccine, except those who have received the single dose vaccine. from Johnson & Johnson “. Philadelphia
Philadelphia has announced that it will require proof of complete Covid-19 vaccination for admission to indoor restaurants, theaters and entertainment venues where food or beverages are served.
The mandate will take effect from January 3. During the first two weeks of the mandate, from January 3 to 17, establishments can accept a negative result in the covid-19 test up to 24 hours before entry. As of January 18, only those fully vaccinated will be able to enter.
Among the types of establishments covered by the mandate are the interior spaces of restaurants and bars, cafes within museums, food halls and food courts, and entertainment venues, conventions and casinos where food is served. San Francisco

San Francisco, a tourist favorite on the West Coast, requires proof of complete vaccination to visit bars, restaurants, gyms and other indoor entertainment establishments.
You cannot use a negative covid-19 test in place of a vaccination test in San Francisco. Find more details at SF.gov.
Seattle
Seattle requires customers 12 years of age and older to show proof of complete vaccination or have a negative COVID-19 test result to enter indoor restaurants and bars, indoor sporting events, and outdoor sporting events with more than 500 people. Find more information on the King County website.
