Luca app: Twitter shit storm for rapper Smudo

The Luca app has been criticized again and again – especially from scientists, IT security experts and data protectionists. In April 2021, TV presenter Jan Böhmermann tricked the system in a curious way. In August 2021, there was even a discussion about whether the Luca app was pointless. The data collected are apparently often unusable and are rarely queried by the authorities – although the smartphone application received funding from tax revenues of more than 20 million euros. The hacking community Chaos Computer Club (CCC) also criticizes the compulsory use. Now the allegations are taking on new proportions. A tweet broke out a real shit storm. Publicist attacks Smudo

It started with a tweet from the publicist Katharina Nocun. She wrote on December 18, 2021: “At some point our children will read in history books that Corona only opted for a completely suboptimal app called ‘Luca’ because a rapper (!) Advised it on talk shows (!!) (& he happened to be involved in the company). God, that’s embarrassing. ” The rapper Smudo we spoke to replied: “Expert in ‘conspiracy theories’ invents conspiracy theory. God is embarrassed …” For information: Nocun published a book in 2020 with the title “Fake Facts: How conspiracy theories determine our thinking”. A member of the Greens intervened in the debate. Dersim Özdag wrote: “Actually, I mainly find the Luca app really embarrassing. And people who use Corona to enrich themselves in general …”

Ping-pong match continues with CCC

Smudo reacted to Özdag with a swipe at the CCC. In the past, he had described the Luca app as a dubious business model with inadequate software. Smudo says: “Exploiting corona is indeed embarrassing. Do you actually know how much corona aid has gone to the CCC?” The CCC didn’t put up with the criticism and then reported: “Collect 21 million for a broken app and then spread something. Completely out of the way, the guy. (The answer to his question is ‘none’, by the way, if there is any doubt). ” The Twitter community railed against the 53-year-old Smudo. The accusation probably backfired. There was a small addendum on the part of the CCC: “Because of the clear demarcation: the CCCV GmbH (does the events) has received Corona support. The CCC eV (does the voluntary work, e.g. ranting about broken apps) but not.” According to CCC Smudo was involved in culture4life GmbH, the company around the Luca app, with more than 22 percent in the spring of 2021.-
