Politician Gerindra Party, Kamrussamad, revealing the reasons for reprimanding his party colleagues, Sandiaga Uno, regarding the alleged exploitation of the ulama behind the declaration of presidential candidates (candidates) made Ijtima Ulama and Indonesian Islamic Youth.
Kamrussamad said the warning was conveyed so that Sandi, as Sandiaga Uno is familiarly called, would not hold activities that have the potential to polarize society as in the 2019 general election.
“First, as a good friend, I have reminded him since the Ijtima Ulama incident in Jakarta on November 9, 2021, that this is not the right thing for us to do because we have already felt the impact in the 2019 election, how the polarization in society is very sharp,” Kamrussamad told reporters. He stated that Sandi should have reminded community groups who want to support him not to use the identity of the ulama.
Kamrussamad also hopes that Sandi will soon realize his mistake and apologize to the public regarding the Ijtima Ulama declaration which has taken place twice, in Jakarta and West Java (Jabar).
“We hope he realizes that and immediately apologizes. We need young statesmen. Apologizing doesn’t mean it’s wrong, but it is the attitude of people who are willing to accept input,” said the member of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
Furthermore, Kamrussamad has no problem if Sandi wants to run as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election. According to him, this desire is the right of every individual citizen that cannot be prohibited.
However, he reiterated, he only reminded Sandi and the public that religious identity should not be used in conveying political support to any presidential candidate.
“If everyone wants it, it’s an individual right, we can’t stop it. [Orang] have a dream to be a regional head [atau] The president is everyone’s right,” said Kamrussamad.
“[Hal] what we need as leaders is to educate the public who want to give support by using religious identity, that this should not be used, this will become a problem and we have felt it impactin 2019,” he continued.
The problem between Kamrussamad and Sandi came to the public after Kamrussamad accused the ulema of exploitation behind the declaration of the Ijtima Ulama and the Indonesian Islamic Youth to support Sandi as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
Kamrussamad said that there was an effort to engineer the ijtima of the ulama which could potentially trigger identity politics as a divider for the nation.
“I’m afraid there is a group of people who work systematically with Sandiaga so that they have the heart to exploit the identity of the ulama,” said Kamrussamad, Friday (17/12).
Not long ago, the Secretary General of the Gerindra Party, Ahmad Muzani, reminded Sandi not to expect a lot of support from his party to run as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
Until now, according to Muzani, cadres still have one vote in favor of General Chair Prabowo Subianto running for the 2024 presidential election.
“If what Pak Sandi hopes is support from the Gerindra Party, Gerindra is the presidential candidate that the cadres want is only one, single, his name is Prabowo Subianto,” said Muzani.
Responding to the situation, the Daily Chair of the Gerindra Party DPP, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that he would resolve the problem between Kamrussamad and Sandi internally.
“We will solve it internally,” said Dasco.
