He was definitely a hit all round. The struggle of Ostrava’s Baník against Prague’s Slavia aroused a number of emotions on both sides. It was the Silesian team that had the win within reach, but in the end they collected a cheap goal and Almási did not convert the penalty. Ondřej Smetana evaluates the home match against Slavia.
The last league match of autumn. Baník in Vítkovice welcomed Prague’s Slavia, which after less than half an hour of play led 2: 0. In the second half, however, the coach of the home team instructed his charges tactics, which led not only to equalization, but also to a turnaround.
Of course, Oscar Dorley was given a chance to change things around.
In the end, however, the Slezanés lost their leadership. In the 87th minute, Taras Kačarabu made a superb strike after 41 minutes with a shot straight in front of the goal after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors’ defenders got a foot in at the last second and warded it off for a corner.
At the set time, the home footballers kicked another penalty, this time after a foul by Aiham Ousou on Yiru Sora, who flew into the penalty area of Slavia like a hurricane. However, Almási did not change his attempt and the hit of the nineteenth round ended in a draw result 3: 3.
“If someone had predicted such a scenario before the match, I probably wouldn’t have believed it. Slavia played a fantastic first half, we must admit. Even though we were ready for their game, they had space in the first half, they were fast and accurate. “ in an interview for Baník TV, Smetana evaluates the course of the first half.
“In the second half, we wanted to speed up our game, be more straightforward and emphatic, which I think worked. When they had one player less, we managed to play them much better in the 3-5-2 formation, we pushed them to their sixteen, “ explains the events of the second half.
The coach of the home team was, of course, frustrated that Baník did not score more than one point in the end. He also commented on Almási’s foul, which caused Slavia’s equalizer to 3: 3.
“He should have done it smartly and tactically. He probably got carried away by leading and somehow finishing it, in any case he is not excused by the fact that he is a young player. I think he went up here in half a year and moved about beyond expectations, “ Smetana comments on the end of the match.
He also added that it is a tough experience for the Slovak striker, which, however, cost Baník two points. He didn’t want to evaluate the unchanged penalty too much, because he doesn’t realize who else should actually go on it.
However, Smetana believes that thanks to this experience, Almási will be an even better striker, and that it will return Baník in the spring part of the season.
“Two to three months ago, I would probably say that we take it (draw 3: 3 – editor’s note), but after the matches with Sparta or Pilsen, we should have been smarter, more experienced and we should have managed to do it. We just had to make it against nine, that’s out of the question. “ Smetana concluded.
The Spaniards therefore overwinter on the fifth place in the league table. He currently has 36 points for ten wins and three draws on his account. Their score (41:25) is also interesting.
Baník scored the most goals in the first nineteen league rounds for the first time since the 2003/04 championship season. In it, he had only one goal more for the same number of matches played.
