The first diplomatic lesson for Kiril Petkov came with his first hosting of a foreign delegation. Unfortunately, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has taken on the role of lecturer. This was written on Facebook by Martin Tabakov, Doctor of Political Science from NBU.

The Greek Prime Minister came to Bulgarian territory and supported the start of negotiations between the Republic of Northern Macedonia and the European Union. It is obvious that the Bulgarian host has not managed to respect his guest enough, so that the latter does not take a stand on this topic, knowing well the considerations that Bulgaria – in this case the host – has towards it.
1: 0 for Mitsotakis.
In addition, Kiril Petkov has allowed our country to be plunged into Greek-Turkish antagonism. The Greek Prime Minister has deceived his Bulgarian counterpart to take part in a bilateral conversation concerning a third country (Turkey). This is not done officially in diplomacy. And when it happens anyway, it is possible only on the basis of a pre-reached consensus that no one will know what.
Such discretion, of course, is not a priority for the Greeks, so we understand from the media of our southern neighbor that from Bulgarian territory Mitsotakis called on Turkey to stop “provocations in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean.”
2: 0 for Mitsotakis.
Last but not least, contentment and a smile are the last accessory with which the Bulgarian Prime Minister must react when a representative of a foreign country takes a position in front of him that is radically different from that of your own country. The Bulgarian one is that the negotiations for EU membership of RSM and Albania should be separate and not together, as Mitsotakis re-launched. Do the Bulgarian authorities know this at all and do they realize what it means?
3: 0 for Mitsotakis.
However, we do not understand from the press release of the Council of Ministers about any of the three: either for the reiterated support from Greece for PCM’s membership in the EU, or for the fact that Turkey was the subject of talks between Sofia and Athens, or for linking membership of Albania and PCM in the EU from Greece.
It would also be more than useful if the Prime Minister did not comment on what was discussed in NATO as infrastructure (the connection he mentioned is Alexandroupolis – Burgas – Varna – Constanta). Just as it is right, Kiril Petkov, before accepting Athens’ generous invitation to the 5th Supreme Cooperation Council of Greece – Bulgaria, to consider that in fact Sofia should host this summit. And the Bulgarian Prime Minister should not allow us to be “sewn” to foreign problems (the topic of human rights and freedoms, in the context of the protection of external borders, is a problem that the EU articulates towards Athens, not Sofia).
Because the result has already become very zero and at least some of the hits are own goals. And the others come from the Mitsotakis class. But there the right is school, not improvisation.
If he had walked, you should have folded him. Tie – pull it to the belt. But there are things for which it is not enough to fasten the top button of the jacket.
The Greek media noticed and filmed them. The photo is by Kathimerini.
