The National Blood Bank asks people to come to its facilities in Zapote during these days and donate blood.

For this purpose, the entity will receive donors from Monday to Thursday, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Friday, December 24 and 31, from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, December 25 and January 1, 2022 will remain closed.

“Given the panorama that is experienced in the last days of the year, the institution makes a special request for people to come and donate this vital liquid. December is a complex season for blood reserves, due to the unfortunate increase in accidents caused by the transfer of people to different vacation spots, traffic and domestic accidents, as well as in recreational or tourist areas, as well as possible burns from the use of gunpowder, among others ”, said Dr. El Carlos Andrés Villegas, Director of the National Blood Bank.

Blood fractionation processes allow each donor to benefit between three and four recipients, platelets, red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitates are already secreted (the latter are clotting factors used for patients with severe bleeding) for the approach and control of various pathologies and procedures of some patients, among them, traumas, surgeries, leukemia, hemophilia, dengue, among others, stressed Villegas.

People interested in donating blood must bear in mind the following requirements:

• Present identity, national or residence card, passport if you have roots in the country

• Wear a mask

• Weigh more than 52 kg and measure more than 1.50m

• Be between 18 and 65 years old

• Not suffer from any infectious disease

• Not having had flu symptoms in the last month or taking antibiotics 15 days before

• Not having had surgery in the last six months

• Tattoos, piercings or micropigmented makeup one year after completion

• 14 after any dose of the AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine has been administered

• 7 after any dose of Pfizer’s covid-19 vaccine

• 30 after any dose of the vaccine against covid-19 has been applied, outside the country

• 15 days after all symptoms of covid-19 have been overcome

The Bank’s intention is to supply the demand of the different hospitals in the country during the end and beginning of the year, as well as to maintain the necessary stocks in the hospital centers, to attend to any eventuality that may arise in the provinces with the highest number of vacationers and in this form to give continuity to complex medical processes.

“On a daily basis, it is necessary to attract about 150 effective donors daily, however, in complex times such as Christmas and the beginning of the year coupled with the need to face emergencies, this number is expanded to 250 daily donors”; Villegas explained.
