Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Variant Covid-19 cases Omicron has now caused 12 patients to die in English until Monday (20/12).
The British Deputy Prime Minister, Dominic Raab, told Times Radio that another 104 people were being treated in UK hospitals for exposure to Omicron.
Cases of the Omicron variant in the UK have skyrocketed in recent days. On Friday (17/12), Omicron’s daily cases increased to 10 thousand in 24 hours.
The total number of Omicron cases at that time was 24,968 with the addition of 10 thousand cases.
Reuters reported that the government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) said it was “almost certain” that hundreds of thousands of people were infected with Omicron every day and went unrecorded.
According to SAGE records, hospitals would admit at least 3,000 patients per day if there were no restrictions.
In comparison, in January, when the UK accelerated vaccination, hospital admissions were above 4,000 patients per day.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has declared the deployment of Omicron a major incident. This status will tighten coordination between government agencies to help tackle Omicron.
“The spike in cases of the Omicron variant across our capital is very worrying, so we once again declare a major incident due to the threat of Covid-19 to our city,” Khan said. AFP.
