Telenor, TV2 | TV 2 peel after black screens: – We lose tens of millions

It has been almost three weeks since Telenor and TV 2 went their separate ways. It is marked on the wallet of the latter.

At the end of November, the old distributor agreement between Telenor and TV 2 expired. After a couple of days, the players were able to announce that negotiations on a new agreement had been broken.

– We went to negotiations with a desire for a long-term collaboration with TV 2 and a willingness to invest more in Norwegian quality content. We have gone to great lengths to reach an agreement, but we can not enter into an agreement that makes it more difficult to be a TV viewer, said director of TV and fixed networks in Telenor Norway, Camilla Amundsen.

– These are large sums

For almost three weeks, 550,000 customers of the telecom giant have gone without TV 2’s channels.

During this period, Telenor has not paid TV 2 and the channel’s earnings have been severely affected.

– We lose both the income we usually get from Telenor, and then we lose advertising revenue because we are unable to deliver to our advertisers what they have ordered. These are large sums. In total, there are tens of millions per month, says organization and communications director Sarah Willand to Nettavisen.

Willand points out that it is tough not to be able to deliver their content to Telenor’s customers at a time when new information about the coronavirus is coming almost daily.

In addition, there are many who have established Christmas traditions that they can miss this year.

If a new agreement does not come into place, Telenor’s customers will have to go without the channels TV 2, Nyhetskanalen, Sportskanalen and TV 2 Zebra this Christmas.

Affects viewership

It is not only noticeable on the economy either. Throughout the autumn, the NRK show Maskorama has been a TV favorite for Norwegians. It has gone beyond TV 2’s viewership, and below The Maskorama final shattered NRK TV2 with almost one million viewers.

– First of all, we must congratulate NRK on the “Maskorama” success. The viewership figures for “Norway’s new megahit” are naturally affected by the fact that 550,000 Telenor customers do not get the TV 2 channels, said TV 2’s press manager Jan-Petter Dahl to Nettavisen at the time.
