IDXChannel– TikTok is testing the platform streaming new desktop called TikTok Live Studio. The platform allows users to broadcast live footage of games and apps on the desktop.
Currently the new software is being tested on a small number of users in several Western markets. However it seems that the statement on the official TikTok page has been deleted since its publication.
Instead of focusing on live user streaming from mobile devices, the platform could expand TikTok Live’s focus to include game streaming.
Quoting The Verge page, Monday (12/20/2021), this also brings TikTok into competition with platforms that already exist such as Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming.
According to Zach Bussey, who shared a screenshot of TikTok Live Studio on Twitter, the platform is currently barebones.
It reportedly supports streaming in both landscape and portrait, and can show footage from games, individual programs, mobile devices, and cameras.
It was previously possible to stream directly from a desktop device to TikTok using third-party software such as Streamlabs. However the help page for the feature notes that access is limited and invite-only.
It’s unclear when TikTok will expand Live Studio testing to more users. But if widely available, desktop streaming could bring even more variety to the platform’s live content catalog. (TIA)
