The public broadcaster Phoenix gave an insight into its festival program from December 20, 2021 to January 9, 2022 – it tells of moments that mean the world. At the turn of the year, phoenix offers highly visual documentation in 14 theme days and one theme week.
The diverse range of films starts with the themes of “Dream Routes”, “Eastward Direction” and “People.Life.Variety”. It illuminates “miracles made of stone”, the fascination of Canada, “glamor and glory”; and it shows family stories, the magic of the mountains, ancient worlds, legends and icons.
The week from January 2 to January 9, 2022 has the motto “The future of the blue planet” and looks at the fascination and diversity of our natural spaces as well as the pressing issue of climate change. The phoenix festival program offers a filmic declaration of love with documentaries in strong images. Every day – a big topic.
Monday, December 20, 2021: dream routes
When traveling, the journey alone is often the goal! When you experience the wild beauty of the Alps on the Glacier Express, discover Iceland’s fabulous volcanic world on your own bike, cross the vastness of the USA on legendary roads such as Route 66 – or take the Hurtigrouten towards the North Cape as a ship passenger. The theme day Dream Routes tells about being on the move on fascinating routes around the world.
Tuesday, December 21, 2021: East direction
phoenix looks east with exciting documentaries: The contemplation of landscapes and people ranges from Europe to Siberia and Mongolia. It goes to the Bohemian Forest and the “golden city” of Prague, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, phoenix provides an insight into the Russian soul of the Cossacks on the “Father Don”, the legendary and dearly revered river of Russia.
Wednesday, December 22nd, 2021: People.Live.Variety
People on the holiday theme day. Life. Friday, December 24th, 2021: Miracles made of stone
On Christmas Eve, look at “miracles made of stone”: imposing buildings from human history, sophisticated architecture and ingenious technical constructions. You can see the tallest buildings in the world, sacred buildings and religious places of worship. In prime time, the four-part documentary series “Miracles of World History” presents buildings that are among the most famous monuments in the world. In addition to the Great Wall of China, the rock temple Petra, the Inca city Machu Picchu and the monastery fortress Mont-Saint-Michel can be seen.
Boxing Day Saturday, December 25, 2021: Canada – Wide Land
Canada – the sound alone awakens dreams of emigrating and calls for a departure into the unknown. Canada, the better America, home of the First Nations and the land of the maple? phoenix embarks on a search for answers, finds indomitable wilderness and follows in the footsteps of indigenous traditions up to the present day. Film goddesses like Grace Kelly and Romy Schneider, the “Prima donna assoluta” Maria Callas, sports icons like Steffi Graf and Fritz Walter as well as the East German music legends Tamara Danz and Gerhard Gundermann are portrayed.
