Simon Cowell ‘devastated’ by death of Il Divo singer Carlos Marín

“I find it very difficult to put into words how I feel,” Simon said in a statement to British media. “I am devastated by the passing of Carlos Marín. He loved life. He loved performing and had so much appreciation for the fans who supported the group from day 1. Rest in peace Carlos. I will miss you.”

On Sunday, the three remaining singers of Il Divo announced on Instagram that Marín had died. “He will be missed by his friends, family and fans. There will never be another voice or soul like Carlos. For seventeen years, the four of us have been on this incredible journey with Il Divo, and we will miss our dear friend.” the men wrote. “We hope and pray that this beautiful soul will rest in peace. With love, David, Sebastien and Urs.”

According to the Spanish newspaper The Spanish Marín, 53, was hospitalized in “serious condition” on December 8. It was not known exactly what was going on with the singer. British media like The Daily Mail reported that he was in hospital because of a corona infection. The guys from Il Divo were actually supposed to be putting on a few more shows in the UK this month. Last week, the band themselves announced that the remaining play dates of the tour will be moved to 2022. A social media post announced that the move was due to illness, but further details were not shared at the time.

The group Il Divo was founded in 2003 and is a multinational singing quartet that sings pop songs in opera style. Besides the Spanish Marín, the group consists of the American David Miller, the Swiss Urs Bühler and the Frenchman Sébastien Izambard.
