Brasilia, Dec 19 (EFE) .- Former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, favorite to win next year’s elections in Brazil, congratulated the virtual president-elect of Chile, Gabriel Boric, on Sunday and celebrated the victory of another progressive in America Latin.
“I congratulate comrade Gabriel Boric on his election as president of Chile,” wrote Lula on his social networks, who in the elections to be held in October 2022 intends to displace far-right Jair Bolsonaro from power.
“I am happy for the victory of a democratic and progressive candidate in our Latin America, for the construction of a better future for all,” added Lula.
Shortly before, the Workers’ Party (PT), led by the progressive ex-president, had also congratulated the leftist Boric.
“Victory for Gabriel Boric in Chile! Latin America is regaining sovereignty and hope. Long live Chile !!, the PT published on its social networks shortly after Boric’s election was recognized by his adversary in the second round of the elections , the far-right José Antonio Kast.
With 99.73% of the polls scrutinized, Boric obtained 55.86% of the votes, compared to 44.14% that Kast had, who has a close relationship with Bolsonaro’s family, and especially with one of his children, the deputy Eduardo.
Brazil will go to the polls in October 2022 and, so far, all the polls place Lula as a clear favorite, who is attributed a vote intention of close to 50%, compared to the 30% that Bolsonaro, leader of the far right, would obtain. Brazilian and that next year he will aspire to renew his mandate.
