In Chile, the leader of the coalition of left-wing parties Gabriel Boric has won the presidential election. His right-wing populist rival José Antonio Kast has admitted his defeat. With more than 90 percent of the vote counted, Boric has 56 percent of the vote, against Kast’s 44 percent.
Kast congratulated Boric by telephone on his “great triumph”. Supporters of Boric then gathered in the center of the capital Santiago to celebrate the victory. In a televised speech, Boric said he wants to be a president for all Chileans.
