Corona shock in the National League. Several positive corona tests were found at HC Ambri-Piotta. A little later, there was more bad news, Genéve-Servette also had to be in quarantine and two games had to be canceled at short notice.
Is participation in the Spengler Cup at risk for Ambri?
Ambri should have played at SC Bern before the Christmas break on Thursday and at the Spengler Cup after Christmas. The next steps will be decided on Monday afternoon at an information meeting with the National League and the organizing committee of the Spengler Cup.
The corona wave is once again reaching Swiss sports. After the Omikron case in the Ambri curve, it now hits the hockey professionals. Ambri speaks of several cases and that the team and staff are in precautionary quarantine until the definitive results arrive and provide information about the virus variant.
The official confirmation of Geneva came on Sunday afternoon, a few hours before the game against Friborg, and Monday’s game in Bern also fell through.
The Geneva camp has not yet released anything about the number of positive tests. It is still too early to announce when these games will be rescheduled. But it is to be hoped that all the teams will be able to play all the games at the end of this season and that they will have a clean table at the end of the qualification.
