Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich has acquired Portuguese citizenship this year and is currently the richest citizen of this Western European country, reports the Portuguese edition of Publico.
The process of acquiring citizenship lasted a year and a half and ended in April 2021. According to the Publico journalist, he has personally seen documents about Abramovich’s naturalization.
“Abramovich became a Portuguese citizen earlier this year thanks to the Portuguese Return Act, which allows the descendants of the Sephardic Jews and Convertible Jews to obtain Portuguese citizenship,” .
Abramovich’s wealth is estimated at 14 billion euros, and he has now become the richest Portuguese citizen, according to a study by Publico.
Abramovich previously lived in Britain, but in 2018 moved to Tel Aviv, Israel, due to problems with the extension of the British visa.
He received an Israeli passport under the country’s return law.
