Due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, today Denmark has again closed many of its cultural sites, DPA reported. As of this morning, theaters, cinemas, zoos, amusement parks and sports facilities will be closed, subject to government regulations. The restaurants will be open until 23:00. The restrictions will apply until mid-January, BTA reports.
“We need to limit our public life. We all need to limit our social contacts,” Prime Minister Mete Frederiksen told a news conference yesterday.
The closure is a sharp reversal for the Scandinavian country, which lifted all restrictions on September 10, but reintroduced the health pass in early November and took the first series of restrictions last week.
In recent weeks, the number of people infected with the coronavirus has risen sharply. On Friday, new infections reached a record high of about 12,000 cases, more than a fifth of them due to the Omicron variant.
