Police and medics are on the scene, working an “active response to attacks”.

Videos posted on social media show the exterior of the mall with police cars and ambulances strewn about the scene.

“Officers are currently working on a developing incident at the Barton Creek Mall for reports of a robbery,” the Austin Police Department wrote on Twitter.

“Please avoid the area. PIO responds. Media, stay at the back of the parking lot near Walsh Tarlton. I will let you know the exact location and time soon.

Other videos on social media show parts of the mall being evacuated as police search the premises.

A witness said he did not hear any shots but saw people running inside, which he described as “traumatic” and “very frightening”.
