Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Britain’s Brexit Secretary of State David Frost has officially resigned from his post. This is because of his disappointment with the government of Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
This resignation is also a big blow for Boris Johnson in the midst of the emergence of the Omicron variant that is hitting the United Kingdom.
Frost’s resignation from office raises questions about the future of Brexit. This added even more turmoil to the Johnson administration.
On resigning Frost said confidently that ‘Brexit is safe’. However, on the other hand he said he was very worried about the direction of the current government.
“You know my concern about the current direction of travel,” Frost told Johnson in a letter released by Downing Street.
“I hope we will move as quickly as possible to where we need to be: a lightly regulated, low-tax entrepreneurial economy, on the cutting edge of modern science and economic change.”
His resignation was first known from a report by The Mail which said it was triggered by stricter Covid-19 restrictions. And also caused by disagreement with the increase in taxes and environmental policy fees.
