“The United States will continue to oppose Iran’s efforts to destabilize global security”
The US Department of Commerce on Thursday blacklisted three companies that tried to support Iran’s conventional weapons and advanced missile programs, through exports via China.
The department’s Bureau of Industry and Security added the three companies to its list of entities “for actions contrary to national security or the foreign policy interests of the United States.”
The updated list, published in the Federal Register, notes that these companies have supplied or attempted to supply items of American origin which could constitute material support for Iran’s conventional weapons and advanced missile programs. ”
The inclusion of these companies on this list prevents them from exporting or transferring equipment within the country.
In addition, the Commerce Department blacklisted a network of eight other companies providing material support to Iran’s defense industry with exports through China, Malaysia, Turkey and Georgia.
The listing comes against the backdrop of a larger tranche of Commerce Department sanctions over the export of biotechnology to China, intended “for military applications and human rights violations.”
“We cannot allow US products, technologies and software that support medical advancement and biotechnical innovation to be diverted to uses contrary to US national security,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo in a press release.
“The United States will continue to oppose efforts to [la Chine] and Iran to transform tools that can help humanity prosper, into tools that threaten global security and stability, ”she added.
