The HSV asks in the local Volksparkstadion Schalke 04 for the top duel of the second Bundesliga. If the hamburgers win, with a bit of luck they could spend the winter on a direct ascent place.
To do this, the Hanseatic League needs a big win this evening (8.30 p.m., in the live center at NDR.de) against their pursuers with the same number of points and at the same time they have to hope that the second-placed Darmstadt team will lose high at Jahn Regensburg. In any case, if they win, Hamburg is at least third. How tight the second league table is, however, is shown not least by the fact that HSV can slide down to seventh place with corresponding results from the competition.

Walter: “We’re improving from game to game”
HSV trainer Tim Walter, anyway not a fan of water level reports, is not interested in the table constellation. Almost like a prayer wheel, he points out that the focus is on the development of his team. And he was satisfied with that.
“We need games like this, in which we challenge ourselves, battle with the best. That brings us on our way forward.” HSV-Trainer Tim Walter
In the first half of the season, HSV conceded only two goals on the counterattack and with only 17 goals they have the best defense in the league: “I can see that we are improving from game to game – and that is the decisive factor for me. We are doing a very consistent one Work, are very active in both defense and attack, “explained Walter.
Jatta back in training
In terms of personnel, there were no new worries among the Hamburgers. Bakery Jatta has overcome his cold and is back in training, and the courted Faride Alidou could not be bothered by the rumors of a possible move to a Bundesliga club, the coach said. The fact that Ludovit Reis stopped training on Thursday was purely a precautionary measure – the midfielder can play.
Walter: Duel not a clue for the second half of the season
Walter regrets that Schalke will come to the Volkspark without the injured former HSV top scorer Simon Terodde: “We always want our opponents to play against us with a full band.” Even without the striker, Schalke have a good team that is looking for “moments of surprise” from a deep formation. But his team is prepared for that.
“We are in good spirits,” said the 46-year-old – but also added that he did not expect the outcome of the game to point to the second half of the season. Walter holds back with prognoses anyway: “It is good that the break is coming. At the moment, however, we are only focused on doing everything again on Saturday.”
