The ARS announces a joint hospital “on a median site” in Sud-Aveyron “before the end of the decade”

Following the supervisory boards of the hospitals of Millau and Saint-Affrique, this Friday, December 17, the Regional Health Agency, as well as all the elected officials concerned by the file, announce this evening the creation of a common hospital in South Aveyron “before the end of the decade”, and on a mid-point site between Millau and Saint-Affrique.

It is an extremely important declaration, bringing together all the actors concerned by the file, which was made this Friday evening about the future common hospital of South-Aveyron. In a press release signed both by the director of ARS Occitanie, Pierre Ricordeau, the mayors of Millau and Saint-Affrique, Emmanuelle Gazel and Sébastien David, the director of the two hospitals, Sylvie Marty, the president of the Departmental Council of the ‘Aveyron, Arnaud Viala, as well as the President of the Region, Carole Delga, it is announced the next construction of a median hospital in Sud-Aveyron, at an estimated cost of 70 million euros, an amount greater than all those previously considered.

On the question of the location of the future health equipment, the press release reserves an “announcement in the announcement”, since it unveils at the same time the result of the feasibility study launched last spring on the Puits-de-Calès site. This had been requested by Emmanuelle Gazel and validated by the ARS, with the aim of determining whether the joint hospital of Millau – Saint-Affrique could be carried out on the current Millau site. The answer, shared this evening in the press release, is negative. “At the end of this study, it was shown that such an achievement would be both too complex, too expensive, too long, and would meet neither the medical needs defined within the framework of the Shared Medical Project of South-Aveyron, nor the quality of the hotel services expected in our time ”, affirms, categorically, the result of the study. In particular, the Puits-de-Calès is criticized for its low parking capacity and the age of its technical installations. This question clarified, it is simply specified that the location of the future hospital in Sud-Aveyron “remains to be defined”, but that it will be built “on a median site” between the two urban centers of Millau and Saint-Affrique.

The press release does not stop there, and specifies what will contain this brand new infrastructure. Namely, a maternity unit providing 450 to 500 deliveries per year, an emergency service of 25,000 annual visits, a surgical activity of 5,000 stays, as well as medical activities and specialized consultations, for a total capacity of 161 beds and places, or 11 more than currently. This care offer is also reflected in the surface area, evaluated at 15,000 to 20,000 square meters.

Finally, the president of Aveyron, Arnaud Viala, for his part, undertakes to put in place “the arrangements which will facilitate the establishment of this large hospital in South Aveyron”, while Carole Delga “supports the principle of this operation “.
