Entrepreneurs affected by flooding in Limburg compensated

The caretaker cabinet is still pulling out the wallet for entrepreneurs in Limburg who have suffered loss of turnover as a result of the floods of last summer. 12 million euros is available for the one-off scheme, the outgoing Minister of Justice Grapperhaus reported in a letter to the House of Representatives.

Companies that suffered at least a 50 percent loss of turnover in the third and fourth quarters are eligible for compensation. They will be reimbursed 10 percent of the loss for the last quarter. If the company has also received corona support, the so-called NOW subsidy will be deducted from the flood compensation.

‘Incomprehensible’

It is outrageous that the government only reimburses ten percent of the lost turnover, says the Limburg Employers’ Association (LWV) in a response. The interest group considers it incomprehensible that there will be no compensation for the loss in the third quarter, in which, according to the LWV, the largest losses were incurred.

Last Tuesday, the Chamber unanimously adopted a motion to compensate Limburg entrepreneurs for their loss of turnover due to the flood in July. The existing regulations are inadequate for these companies, concluded the drafter of the motion Dion Graus (PVV).

The combination of the corona crisis and the corona restrictions in particular makes the impact of the floods extra great for entrepreneurs. That was also the decision for the cabinet to ultimately make an arrangement, Grapperhaus wrote to the House.
