The Eisvögel USC Freiburg with their youth program are nationwide as a role model for other clubs. The concept has brought the owner Angels’ Sunday guests up to second place in the table this year.
In front of their own audience, things should look better for the owner Angels. That is the hope before the last day of the DBBL first round. After a weak performance in Saarlouis, a significant increase in performance must be achieved on Sunday in order to be able to keep up with the guests. The USC Freiburg’s kingfishers are expected to be the last remaining opponent, with whom the Nördlingers have not yet made acquaintance this season.
In one respect, USC Freiburg is a role model for many other teams in the league. For years, the club has focused on promoting young German talent and has also focused on young talents in the Bundesliga. It is all the more remarkable that his team apparently easily compensated for the loss of the American Christa Reed and was able to achieve clear victories even without one of their most important points suppliers. It remains to be seen whether Reed’s shoulder injury will be cured by Sunday. With regard to the last USC games, the 17-year-old Lina Sontag, who recently shone with convincing appearances, deserves special mention. Sontag already wore the jersey of the senior national team in the summer and is considered one of the greatest young talents in Germany. Interestingly, there was also a change on Sundays from Berlin to Nördlingen in the summer before she finally decided on the program in Breisgau. So on Sunday you can see Sunday in the Hermann-Keßler-Halle, even if only once and in the “wrong” jersey.
Point guard Shiori Yasuma, who holds the strings on the field, is the outstanding player of the kingfishers. The Japanese is very accurate from all positions and currently has the second most points in the league with an average of more than 20 points per game. You can be sure that Angels trainer Tony Imreh has already worked out a strategy for keeping the Japanese woman in check.
The Angels hope that the kingfishers are undefeated in their own hall, but have already been defeated away from home.
