“With regard to Nord Stream 2, you saw the agreement between the United States and Germany on the security implications of Ukraine and Europe as the pipeline project advanced earlier this year by the United States and Germany,” the State Department official said in a press release.
It is also noted that there are agreements and mutual understanding between the United States and Germany regarding support for Ukraine and the future gas pipeline, including its suspension in the event of further Russian aggression.
“We had good discussions with the new German government. They made some very strong statements on Nord Stream 2 and regarding their continued support for the agreement that we have concluded with them,” the release says.
Note that during a briefing with a State Department spokesman, one of the journalists asked whether the United States expected Germany to refuse or delay the launch of Nord Stream 2 in the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
