At least 176 infected by Covid-19 after attending Bad Bunny concerts in Puerto Rico

The singer offered his first performances this weekend since the beginning of the pandemic, turning the Hiram Bithorn stadium into a nightclub with a dozen guest artists. About 80,000 people attended.

The Puerto Rico Department of Health has confirmed at least 176 positive cases of Covid-19 among people who attended the singer’s concerts Bad Bunny in the city of San Juan last Friday and Saturday. Authorities are investigating whether people were already infected when they attended the concerts or if they were infected during the show that brought together some 80,000 people at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan.

Although the level of transmission is still moderate on the island, there has been an increase from 2% to 3.5%, indicated epidemiologist Marzán Rodríguez, who appealed to those attending Bad Bunny concerts or any other mass event to be tested for the virus and, if positive, to isolate themselves to stop the chains of contagion.

Bad Bunny offered his first concerts this weekend since the beginning of the pandemic, turning the Hiram Bithorn stadium into a nightclub with a dozen guest artists, including J Balvin, Sech Y Romeo Santos.

The organization of the event required attendees to present their vaccination card to enter the stadium and protect themselves with masks. Since the start of the pandemic, more than 223,000 cases of infections and 3,277 deaths from covid-19 have been registered in Puerto Rico, the United States territory with the highest vaccination rate.
