Ben Affleck said in a radio interview two days ago that he would still drink if he was married to Jennifer Garner, and that he drank because he felt “trapped”. Now he clears up.
–
The statements fell when Ben Affleck (49) was a guest in «The Howard Stern Show». The film star, who this year has resumed his relationship with old girlfriend Jennifer Lopez (52), eased the veil on her marriage to actress Jennifer Garner (49).
The reactions in social media and other media have not been absent after Affleck elaborated on how difficult the marriage was. He explained that if he and Garner probably “would have ended up in each other’s throats” if they had not been divorced.
– I had probably still been drinking. That was partly why I started drinking … because I was trapped, Affleck said.
The Hollywood star got married with Garner in 2005, a few years after that the engagement to Lopez was broken.
Affleck explained to radio host Howard Stern how he and Garner “tried, tried and tried” for the sake of their three children. They were formally divorced in 2018, almost four years after they took out separation.
Many have reacted to the interview and think it is bad style to blame the drinking on their then spouse. Fox News, USA Today and People is among the media that have covered the criticism. Not least, talk show host Piers Morgan has in clear words tweeted about what he means:
When Affleck visited talk show host Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday, he had seen the reactions. And he wanted to explain himself.
Affleck stated in Kimmel that the way he appears in the description of the radio interview is “completely opposite of who he really is”.
– I never wanted my children to think that I ever spoke badly about their mother, Affleck emphasized, according to People.
Affleck further stated that he himself was satisfied with the radio interview, and that it made sense. Only after it went on the air, he realized that some listeners had focused on only excerpts of the talk – and thus conveyed the impression that he said the opposite of what he himself thinks he said.
– It was made clear from my side how much we respect each other, and how much care we have for each other. We put both our children first – always.
