Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte reported in a letter to parliament on Wednesday that Crown Princess Amalia had invited 21 guests for her eighteenth birthday, a lot more than the recommended four guests.

The Dutch crown princess Amalia celebrated her eighteenth birthday in the garden of Huis ten Bosch Palace last week and invited 21 people. That is a larger number than the four guests advised by the resigning government regarding the corona restrictions. Prime Minister Mark Rutte reported this in a letter to parliament on Wednesday.
The letter does not state the exact number of attendees. According to the Government Information Service (RVD), the invitees ‘not all came’. The Telegraph would have heard from sources that there were dozens of guests. According to the newspaper, there were a hundred people at the party, the RVD keeps it at 21 guests.
‘Not so good on closer inspection’
The RVD and Rutte emphasize that all guests had been vaccinated and had taken a corona test. ‘They have also kept an appropriate distance. The family was convinced to deal with the corona advice in a responsible manner with this meeting outside and with the precautions taken.’ According to NRC King Willem-Alexander has said that it was not good to organize this on closer inspection.
It is not the first time that the Dutch royal family has been discredited for not strictly following the corona measures. In the summer of 2020, when distance had to be kept, Willem-Alexander and Máxima took a photo with a Greek restaurant owner where there was no social distancing. A few months later, the family went on an autumn holiday to Greece, the day after the Prime Minister had called on the Dutch to stay as close to home as possible.
