It was on December 15, 1920, that a boy was born who was later to have the admiration of the audience. Little Vlastimil Brodský saw the light of day in Hrušov nad Odrou near Ostrava, but as a teenage high school student he moved to Prague with his parents. Of course, that also affected his future. He could start devoting himself to theater, even under the supervision of EF Burian. Although at first it drew him more to dance and especially to tap, in the end acting prevailed and as we know, it was definitely the right decision.
Dozens of breathtaking roles
Vlastimil Brodský later went from role to role, we can remember him, for example, in the immortal film Saints, but we will certainly remember him in Night at Karlštejn, Skřivánky na niti, Mysterious Castle in the Carpathians and dozens of other excellent films. For a change, children seldom miss the replay of the film Long Live the Ghosts, and for at least one whole generation of children Vlastimil Brodský will simply remain the grandfather of Drchlík of the Visitors. Whatever role he appeared in, it was always possible to believe every word and every gesture he uttered and played in a special way. But his own life was different from the fates of his characters.
Great love and great disappointment
One of our best actors has always seemed shy, his gaze suggesting that there was a secret inside his soul that he would rather not have. These were depressive states that he had been struggling with for many, long years, and he had certainly not been given a failed marriage with Jana Brejchová, who was twenty years younger, and who was to be the love of his life forever. However, as before, his relationship with Jiřina Jirásková or his first wife Božena, whom no one said otherwise than Bíba, the great love with this other icon of our acting heaven gradually ended. Why? One of the main reasons was her relationship with another man, whom we also know intimately from the television screen and the cinema. Jaromír Hanzlík, who was eight years younger, became the love of Jana Brejchová when she lived with Vlastimil Brodský in the same household.
Friend in the locker room, juice in love
Even though it was a time when Vlastimil Brodský and Jana Brejchová shared the address, not their lives, the time when everyone lived in a different room in the house and their destinies began to pass, such a finding was no joy for the actors. In addition, it was his longtime friend, with whom he shared a locker room in the theater. How did it all turn out? It was to be expected that such a situation would not be sustainable, but it still took some time for a divorce.
Until then, they basically lived in threes, when Jaromír Hanzlík appeared in Brodský more and more often and his visits became longer and longer. It was said that it was no exception that they lasted until the next day. According to the acquaintances of this couple, none of the lovers cared about where the husband and the master of the house are and what they are doing.
Depression and death of one’s own accord
After the divorce and later the divorce, Tereza’s daughter remained in the care of her mother and her friend Jaromír Hanzlík. Vlastimil Brodský never forgave his wife for her betrayal. At an older age, they had bothered him more than ever depression and thoughts of death, which, according to his acting colleagues, he at least outlaid with black humor.
For example, he sat near a radiator, which he jokingly explained by getting used to the heat of cremation. He was not afraid of death, but could not bear the thought of dying. And it was this vision that probably drove him to a step that cannot be undone. At the age of 81, he shot himself at his cottage in Slunečná.
WHERE NOW: Assassination of Elizabeth II: They did not reveal the secret until decades later. Who was Christopher Lewis, why did he shoot and how did he end up?
