There have been quite a few rumors around Silent Hill in recent years, and we ourselves have frequently reported them. Konami (and Sony?), On the other hand, still says nothing about the sadly neglected franchise these days, while Capcom is already in its eighth major part with Resident Evil this year. But there is no better person than Toyama to find out what a “quiet hill” should be like.
A VGC he interviewed him, but not just because of Silent Hill. Remember, Toyama was one of those who left Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio, which was then shut down, but he created a new, independent studio, Bokeh Game Studio. Its first game was also shown at The Game Awards; Slitterhead was the main subject of the interview, but Silent Hill was one of the topics.
Here, Toyama stated that the Silent Hill remake would be much more difficult compared to Resident Evil, as the gameplay concept is a bit older. It’s not an action game where you can easily retune your action. At Silent Hill, if the level were raised to the current standard, or if the graphics were tuned, he said fans wouldn’t be happy. The franchise did not become famous because of its beauty, but its concept should be rethought to get the attention of the fans.
If there was a new part in the series, he would be interested in it as a player (he called himself a user, but that’s probably a translation buck?). He knows there are a lot of games that have followed Silent Hill’s example since then, so he specifically wants to know how a new Silent Hill act would leave the original intact and how it would change compared to it. (Maybe you’re not alone with that).
And from Slitterhead, he said the prototype phase had been completed. The knowledge gained from the feedback is used to make full progress, but it is too early to provide any details. a about gaming (so you don’t know what it’s up to and when it will be released, but you mentioned earlier that PC is the primary, so who knows…?), so they need time. We can handle it.
