The eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma may be over. After about 36 hours of barely any activity, this could mark the beginning of the end of the eruption, scientists say.
Still, a resurgence of volcanic activity is not completely ruled out either. “We can’t be 100 percent sure, as the volcano has been doing some tricks in recent weeks,” Valentin Troll, a geology expert at Uppsala University in Sweden, told AP news agency.
The volcano’s activity has declined several times in recent months and then picked up again, but Troll thinks it’s unlikely to happen again.
