TOP 10 cars with the most cornering mileage: the BMW M5 is at the top of the list
To determine the list of the most modified cars, the IT data company carVertical analyzed the history reports of more than 700,000 used cars created between November 2020 and November 2021.
Eighteen different markets were analyzed, including Poland, Romania, Hungary, France, Slovenia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Serbia, Germany, Croatia, Russia, the United States and Italy.
According to mileage data, the BMW M5 is the car with the highest number of mileage distortions, and slightly more than a third of the models tested are likely to be distorted.
However, these statistics do not yet reveal the odometer problem for BMW cars in full – as Matas Buzelis, carVertical’s automotive expert, recently pointed out, BMW cars dominate the list:
“Half of the TOP10 list is occupied by cars of this manufacturer. This is due to the demand for used BMW vehicles in various markets.
The data also reveals that expensive cars are more likely to have distorted mileage, and this should be taken into account when looking for a used vehicle. In these cases, it is handy to check the mileage of the car. ”
Second and third on the list are the BMW 7 Series and the Subaru Outback, with 33.4 and 31.8 per cent potentially distorted mileage respectively.
The Audi A8 was the fifth most distorted car, while its sportiest relative, the A7, ranked tenth in this study with just over a quarter (25.8 percent) of cars with distorted mileage.
Mr. Buzel explains that the location of higher-segment vehicles among those whose mileage is changed the most is due to higher profit growth.
Rewinding the odometer is a relatively inexpensive and simple process that provides additional income to unscrupulous car dealers.
This study finds an expanded list of the 20 cars with the most distorted mileage.
Car models by year of production with the most distorted mileage: most often distorts the mileage of older cars

M. Buzelis explains that the latest models may be a little more difficult to change the odometer readings.

Most cars with distorted mileage are equipped with diesel engines. As an automotive expert, Buzel emphasizes that this has always been the case:
“Diesel cars are designed to cover longer distances, which means that they are more prone to mileage fraud. However, the situation may change in the future as sales of diesel are declining. “
If we look at the numbers, we can clearly see that up to 80 or 90 percent of distorted mileage models are usually equipped with diesel engines. For example, the Volkswagen Phaeton – nine out of 10 distorted models were equipped with diesel engines and only one was powered by a petrol engine.
The groups of distorted petrol and diesel BMW 6 Series cars are almost identical, but this is because petrol versions of this car are much more popular.
In some cases, some models do not have diesel engines at all. Its petrol engine is the only option for the BMW M5 and Ford Mustang.
