Elkan Baggott confirmed to be absent Indonesian National team meet Vietnam on Wednesday (15/12/2021). Half-breed defenders still have to undergo self-quarantine.
Previously, the Singapore government through the Ministry of Health sent a letter to Elkan Baggott to quarantine him until December 18. PSSI then tried to lobby the Singapore government.
A few hours before the match kick off, the Singapore Government stood by its decision. Elkan Baggott was confirmed absent.
“PSSI assisted by the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore has negotiated with the local government in this case the Singapore Ministry of Health. We must follow the rules set by the Singapore government that Elkan is quarantined until December 18,” said PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi in a federation release.
Yunus added a case Elkan different from Malaysian player Safawi Rasid. At that time Safawi could play against Vietnam even though he was in the same room with Akhyar Rasyid who tested positive for COVID-19.
Several supporters of the Indonesian national team compared the case of Elkan Baggott with Safawi Rasid. But the case is different because Elkan Baggott is on the same plane with a positive person for COVID-19, the Omricron variant
“If Safawi follows the rules there, it doesn’t matter if he can play against Vietnam because he underwent PCR and the results were negative. If it happened to our team, roommates can continue to move or play as long as the PCR results are negative,” said Yunus Nusi.
“Elkan is different, because he is from abroad and there are passengers on the plane who are affected by the new variant of Omicron covid-19. Not only Elkan has to undergo quarantine, but all passengers. there is a criminal act,” said Yunus Nusi.
Despite being in quarantine, Elkan Baggott still able to practice independently. This is because the Singapore government allows gym equipment to be brought into the room. In addition, food can be arranged and provided by yourself if it does not match the menu provided at the quarantine hotel.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Singapore Football Federation (FAS) Yazeen Bukhari said he had submitted and replied to a letter of clarification regarding this matter to PSSI.
