The reason for the action, according to the unions, is the lack of structural solutions to tackle the high workload, for which action has already been taken. At that time, it was about smaller, mainly symbolic actions to spare travelers.
According to Van Camp, the dissatisfaction among the staff has become so great that spontaneous actions threatened. It was then decided to organize the 24-hour strike. “This way Brussels Airlines can take the necessary measures and travelers can look for another flight for Monday,” says Van Camp. “We do not want to hit the travelers. The responsibility lies with the management. We also want to send a signal to the parent company in Germany.”
Van Camp emphasizes that the unions do not want to hide behind the threat of spontaneous actions. “The management has reaped what it has sown with its attitude.” The BBTK secretary adds that, in addition to the workload, there is also dissatisfaction with the current system of compensation, which would lead to large differences in wages, and a sense of lack of respect. For example, the launch of a new logo was “a little inappropriate” in the current circumstances, according to Van Camp.
