Racks empty just after opening time: Primark in Charleroi victim of ‘scalping’

It seems that the Primark site in Charleroi is the victim of ‘scalping’. Several customers noted how the store shelves are already emptied when they open and the products are then offered online for a multiple of the price. That reports RTL Info.

“Can Primark really not avoid this?” Several customers of the Primark store in the Rive Gauche shopping center in Charleroi complained on Wednesday RTL Info. They note that many shelves in the store are already emptied by other customers shortly after opening time. To their surprise, the same products appear for sale online not much later, where they suddenly cost a lot more.

This practice is called ‘Scalping’. It has been used more and more in recent years, especially at events. Then loan sharks buy tickets en masse and then offer them for sale at a much higher price as soon as the event is sold out.

In the case of Primark, Disney products are mainly targeted, especially waffle irons, cuddly toys and Christmas decorations. For example, that waffle iron costs 26 euros in the store, but it is offered on Facebook for 50 euros. So almost double.

It is no coincidence that it happens just before Christmas, according to another customer who created the Facebook group Primark Charleroi. “It’s like this every year. People absolutely want that Disney stuff, but because of those practices they don’t find them in the store, but on Vinted or other second-hand sites. It’s just unfair.”

Finding a solution to the problem is not easy. “One option is to limit the number of purchases per customer to, for example, two. Shops can do that perfectly”, says the FPS Economy.
