Nicaragua received 827,190 Pfizer vaccines, donated by France

Nicaragua received this Monday a donation of 827,190 Pfizer brand vaccines, donated by France, through the Covax mechanism, which is supported by the European Union and its member states.

The French ambassador to Nicaragua, Brieuc Pont, highlighted at the time of delivering the vaccines at the air terminal of the Augusto C. Sandino airport, in Managua, that it is the largest vaccine donation received by this country through the Covax mechanism.

Pont said that France plans to donate 120 million vaccines.

According to a press release from the French Embassy in Nicaragua, that country began donating anticovid vaccines, through the Covax mechanism, since April of this year and intends to reach that goal by the end of the first half of 2022.

Sixty-seven million doses have already been donated, indicated the ambassador.

The Minister of Health, Martha Reyes, received the donation of these vaccines and affirmed that 70 percent of the Nicaraguan population has been inoculated with the first dose.

Reyes also said that 35 percent of Nicaraguans have already received the second dose of the vaccine against that disease. Only the propaganda media of the Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo regime are invited to receive these donations.

Nicaraguan health authorities have ordered that the Pfizer brand vaccines be applied only to pregnant women, postpartum women and women who are breastfeeding their children in the first six months after delivery.

Individual responsibility

The representative of the Pan American Health Organization and World Health Organization (PAHO and WHO) in Nicaragua, Ana Treasure, also present during the delivery, urged the population to continue to keep preventive measures to avoid the spread of covid -19.

“Christmas is coming and it is a time when we all want to be celebrating family life, but we must continue to maintain (social) distancing, wash our hands, wear masks and avoid crowds,” advised the representative of PAHO and WHO.

Treasure pointed out that donations of vaccines, such as the one made by France, are important to be able to face the pandemic “without hospitalizations and without deaths.”
