Today, after seventeen years, the NACO house was sailed back to the back of Central Station. The wooden boathouse, which was used as an office for a shipping company, was stored because of the renovation of the station in Zaandam. Several Amsterdammers came to the house today waiting: “I think it’s great that he’s back.”

Four years ago the restoration started in Zaandam and today the boat house was again crossed over the IJ sailed back. “I came to Amsterdam especially for this,” says one visitor. “I am very happy that he is back. It’s a piece of history.”
The shipping company’s office was nicknamed the NACO house after the office was used in the 1960s by the shipping department of the ‘Nederlandsche Auto Car Onderneming’. “When I see the house, I think back to my past and my youth,” says one visitor. “That we always made trips there by boat. Then you could pay at the house and it was already an eye-catcher. Even as a child I thought it was beautiful.”
The house is expected to be completely ready in the fall of 2022. Then tickets will be sold for cruises and there will be an exhibition about the port of Amsterdam.
