Ahead of the Mars Mission, NASA Conducts Crazy Experiments in Antarctica

JAKARTA – On the eve of the mission to Mars, NASA sends two explorers across Mars to test human survival in extreme environments. Currently the two explorers have crossed Antarctica as far as 3,650 kilometers and withstand winds of up to 320 km/hour.

Reported Live Science, Tuesday (12/14/2021), British explorers Justin Packshaw and Jamie Facer Childs are on day 32 of an 80-day journey across the southernmost continent as part of the Chasing the Light mission.

It’s a painstaking expedition that could give NASA a better understanding of the psychological and physical impact of the other world on the human body and mind.

The two explorers braved freezing temperatures and katabatic winds with a maximum speed of 320 km/h as they crossed the continent. “Just like the extreme conditions found on the planets, Antarctica has an environment [keras] which is useful for a variety of human and biological research,” according to the Chasing the Light mission’s website.

Justin and Jamie’s mission will allow scientists to observe the rare scientific story of human adaptability, which will ultimately contribute to space exploration.

NASA , the European Space Agency (ESA) and Stanford University collected data from the smart devices worn by the two explorers. These men traveled without mechanical assistance.
