Camille Tissandié, the Castres swimmer, champion of France: “The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are a goal”

the essential
At only 17 years old, the Castres nautical sports swimmer won two French championship titles this weekend and two other podiums. But she aims even higher.

This weekend took place the French Elite Swimming Championships (Winter) in the 50-meter pool of the Antigone swimming pool in Montpellier. A competition in which the young Castraise Camille Tissandié did more than participate. With two gold medals in the 200m and 400m medley, a silver in the 400m freestyle and a bronze in the 200m butterfly, the 17-year-old swimmer from Castres Sports Nautiques entered the big leagues.

The day after her exploits, and between two white bac tests and her more than 20 hours of weekly training, she agreed to share with us her feelings as a brand new double champion of France Elite.

What were your goals before this competition?

There was no real goal, it was more to see where I was after a cycle of work. There weren’t many stakes at these championships, it was more to look at where we were and get closer to qualifying times for the senior European and World Championships. The idea was to hang medals where possible and have fun.

What was the most anticipated medal for you?

That of the 400m medley because I had already won national medals in this race. It was there where I was most awaited.

And which one surprised you the most?

I think that’s the title in the 200m medley. He really made me happy. Then I said to myself that it was possible, that I was in good shape and that I had to continue this momentum to have fun and swim quickly.

You are ahead of girls with prestigious charts. Does that open up new goals for the future?

I already had the objective of qualifying for the European and World Championships for seniors, so no. It is rather in continuity. We tell ourselves more that it is achievable. I’m not much, we will have to not let go for April.

You practice the 4 strokes, which is your favorite?

I don’t really have one. I really do everything. I managed to do medals in butterfly and front crawl. It depends, it’s cycles at the moment I like the crawl. The backstroke and breaststroke are a bit lower.

The Olympic Games in Paris are less than 3 years away. Is it a goal to participate?

Yes it is clearly a goal. This is what I train for. I really hope to get there.

Who is your model?

The Hungarian Katinka Hosszu is a specialist in 4 strokes. She swims everything, all the time. On meetings, the World Championships. She makes medals everywhere, I find that very impressive. It is truly an example to follow.

What are your next dates?

This weekend I have the French junior championships but it is not a crucial deadline. These are my last so it’s just a bonus. The real target is in April. There are the French championships in Limoges which are qualifiers for all the French teams, the World championships … This is where you have to really perform.

“Stratospheric”

The former student of Jean Monnet college in Castres, licensed at Castres sports anutiques, and current resident of the national training center of Font-Romeu, achieved this weekend with these performances a real stroke of brilliance. . “It is a pleasure and constitutes real recognition for the club. This is the best way to have our action in favor of young people recognized. The people she is ahead of in the final are not the first to come, they are at the Olympic level. It’s stratospheric, but it’s ultimately a semi-surprise because we know her, she knows how to manage, ”says Jean-Marie Celariès, president of the CSN, happy that his club participated in the emergence of such a champion.
