Luck in misfortune for Nico Schlotterbeck: The defender may be available for SC Freiburg in the coming game after being substituted due to injury.
After a rescue operation against Hoffenheim’s striker Georginio Rutter, Schlotterbeck had to be treated for minutes at the weekend and finally replaced. The foot of the central defender was affected – and the worry lines spread in Breisgau, after all Schlotterbeck is one of the most important players in the sports club.
But it seems that the youngster got off lightly. “He was very lucky. And so are we,” explained SCF coach Christian Streich in SWR. “The nerve was irritated and he didn’t feel the foot for a moment. But that has improved a lot and he can now walk normally again.”
Streich added that it was even possible “that he can play on Wednesday. That is very gratifying.”
The Breisgauers have to compete at Union Berlin on Wednesday evening (8:30 p.m.). The Iron are just two points behind Freiburg in sixth place – a top game in which you can of course use a Nico Schlotterbeck.
