Paul Revere family memorabilia up for auction in Massachusetts

CANTON, Massachusetts, USA (AP) – Items that were owned by the family of American patriot Paul Revere were put up for auction.

The artifacts were found in the attic of a home in Canton, Massachusetts, believed to have belonged to the family of the legendary War of Independence fighter, The Boston Globe reported.

These include tools such as iron calipers, letters, and other personal items. There is also a ledger belonging to descendants of Paul Revere and a black painted sign with the name of Paul Revere’s son, Joseph W. Revere.

The John McInnis Auctioneers in Amesbury will sell the items in a single lot at an auction that concludes Saturday. He estimates that they could be sold for between $ 1,000 and $ 2,000.

Owner John McInnis told the Globe that the poster almost certainly related to the siding company the Revere family owned in Canton, a Boston suburb.

Revere gained fame for his night cavalcade on April 18, 1775, warning the colonial independence militia that the British army was approaching, prior to the battles of Lexington and Concord. The ride was immortalized in a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in 1861.

Revere was born and lived mostly in Boston. He bought a house in Canton in 1801 and later opened the Revere Copper Company on the land and his descendants built other operations on the site.
