Construction of SP-2

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz can safely delegate this task to the country’s bureaucracy, since he has no right to interfere.

Berlin said that it had not promised Washington to suspend Nord Stream 2 in the event of a Russian military invasion of Ukraine. It is reported by Bloomberg with reference to the source.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, under pressure from the United States to stop the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, can safely delegate this task to the country’s bureaucracy, since he has no right to interfere, the newspaper writes.

Before the pipeline starts pumping gas, the work of the Northern Project-2 must be approved by the German regulator and the EU Commission. The certification of the Russian pipeline must undergo a rigorous EU review prior to final approval by Germany. This can take up to eight months.

Approval deadlines stalled in mid-November when the regulator froze the process to allow pipeline operator Nord Stream 2 AG, owned by Gazprom, to set up a German company in accordance with local EU rules and regulations.

This decision led to a sharp increase in natural gas prices in Europe, which indicates how much Europe is betting on the possibility of increasing the supply of “blue fuel” from Russia.

Recall Olaf Scholz threatened the Russian Federation with consequences for SP-2 in the event of an invasion of Ukraine. The German Chancellor called for respect for the principle of inviolability of borders, which increases overall security.

Prior to that, US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland stated that if Russia decides to invade Ukraine, Washington will do its best to stop SP-2.
