Of movie Where are you going, Aida?, co-produced by production house N279 of Els Vandevorst and Martin Koolhoven, has become the big winner of the 34th European Film Awards. In Berlin, where the audience was missing due to the pandemic, the film was awarded the best European film of the year. In addition, Jasmila Žbanić received the prize for best European director and Jasna Đuričić was chosen as best European actress.
Where are you going, Aida? is about a UN interpreter who works in Srebrenica in 1995. She tries to save her family during the fall of Srebrenica, the capture of the Muslim enclave by Bosnian Serb troops led by General Ratko Mladić. The city was guarded by Dutch UN peacekeepers at the time of the capture. Ultimately, at least 8,000 Muslims would die in the fall of Srebrenica. Jasmila Žbanić dedicated her film to the women whose sons, husbands and fathers died in the genocide.

Other winners at the European Film Festival were Anthony Hopkins, who was named Best Actor for his role in The Father, and the Danish documentary Flee. The European Film Awards have been in existence since 1988 and are awarded every year by filmmakers in Europe who are members of the European Film Academy.
