The Serbian Republic within Bosnia and Herzegovina has taken another step towards autonomy. Parliament voted last night in a motion to secede from Bosnia’s army, tax system, justice and security services. 49 of the 83 MPs voted in favour, 3 were against. The rest walked away or boycotted the vote.
Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik said in parliament that he does not believe that the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina can survive. He called it an important day for the Serbian Republic and said there should be a referendum, including on the establishment of its own army. Within six months he wants to come up with bills to take over federal powers.
