Austria ends the lockdown on Sunday – under strict conditions and with differences in the federal states. The new regulation also regulates private gatherings.
From Sunday onwards, things can be relaxed in Austria. That is fixed with the decision of the new Corona Protection Measures Ordinance in the National Council this afternoon. The paper shows no surprises. Events may only take place between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m., the same applies to the opening times of the Gastronomy. What is new is that in Hospitals now one visit per day, not just one per week, is possible.
Not all federal states will use the opportunity to open from day one. Only the two high incidence countries Vorarlberg and Tyrol as well as Burgenland start in full on Sunday. The other countries wait, especially when it comes to gastronomy and tourism, and do not open extensively until Thursday or, in the case of Vienna, not until a week later. Across the country that is fixed in practically everyone Leisure area a contact registration is required again. The lockdown remains for the unvaccinated.
Lockdown end: where in Austria and when it is opened
As is well known, the federal government specifies the “minimum standards” for the openings. The federal states also chose different approaches. An overview.

For the Gastronomy fairly well-known rules apply. Night dining is by that 11 p.m. curfew excluded, there is also a ban on bar operations. It can only be consumed in the open air while standing. The mask can only be removed from the seat. In addition, as everywhere where there is nothing essential to life, one applies 2-G requirement. That means you have to be vaccinated or have recovered. Only when picking up food does 2-G do not apply.
Also known from earlier times are the requirements for using the Hotellerie. the mask must be created here in all publicly accessible areas. 2-G applies per se, but not, for example, in the case of business stays that cannot be postponed, nor in boarding schools, for example.
You can also celebrate again, whether it’s a wedding, baptism or Christmas party. But you have to do without larger rounds. Are allowed with such Eventswhere it is assumed that the guests will be mixed up, only indoors 25 people. This also applies to the private sector. The current draft ordinance explicitly states “family reunions, birthday parties, wedding celebrations, Christmas parties”. The organizers have to collect the contact details of the guests or they have to appoint a Covid-19 officer. The 2-G rule and the FFP2 mask requirement also apply here. If you want to try it outdoors despite the fresh temperatures, you can gather up to 300 people. There is also a curfew here at 11 p.m.
The rules for events are more generous assigned seatswhich includes culture, sport and other leisure events. 2000 people are allowed in closed rooms, twice as much for the outside area. It is mandatory to put on an FFP2 mask inside.
Sport is possible again inside and outside. In the case of training, competitions and championship games, the regulations for meetings also apply. Non-immunized people are therefore excluded from fitness studios or soccer training. You can only exercise outdoors and only with people living in the same household.
Also the Leisure area from the swimming pool to the indoor playground is open again. However, vaccination or recovery must also be shown here.
In Hospitals and sanatoriums, one visitor per day and person is now again admitted if he fulfills 2-G and additionally PCR tested is. In care facilities there are two people under the same conditions.
